In these uncertain times, we came 8th place in the second section of the West of England Regional Championship on Saturday 14th March 2020. The contest piece, called “The Golden Sabre — Tales of the Hussar-Poet, Denis Davydov “,
was composed especially for the contest by Kit Turnbull. Not your usual style of contest music, the piece was inspired by events during the Napoleonic Wars and the invasion of Russia in 1812, and comprised lengthy passages written in an irregular 10/8 time signature.
